The Hamilton Kilty B’s have made a flurry of off-season signings as they retool the roster prior to moving into their new home at the Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena. The Kilty B’s, who played the last five seasons as the Ancaster Avalanche in the GOJHL before relocating to Hamilton for 2018-19, have signed seven new players to add to a lineup that finished with a club-record 38 wins this past season.

Defenceman Matt Stayshyn, a fellow Flint Firebirds draft pick and graduate of the Junior Bulldogs, will join the team’s blue-line. The six-foot-one rearguard played in a handful of games with the Avalanche as an affiliate player this past season.

Josh Houston
, a Carlisle native, joins the Kilty B’s from the Oakville Rangers organization. He had 24  goals and 51 points in 36 games with the Hamilton Junior Bulldogs minor midget ‘AAA’ team in 2016-17 and was drafted in the ninth round by the OHL’s Flint Firebirds in 2017.

Forward Holden Rogers joins the Kilty B’s from the Niagara North Stars midget ‘AAA’ program.  “A relentless worker, Holden plays with a high pace and will prove to be a fan favourite,” Kilty B’s general manager Steve Hodson said in announcing the signing.

Rogers’ teammate from the Niagara North Stars program, Zack Osborne, will also join the forward lines. He had 15 goals and 31 points in minor midget with the Jr. Bulldogs in 2016-17.

“Zack brings a high energy level with a never ending work ethic and we are thrilled with him joining the Kilty family,” Hodson said.

Lucas Thompson, a 2017 draft pick of the OHL’s Oshawa Generals, also joins the Kilty B’s from the North Stars program.  “A highly desired recruit for many teams, we are thrilled Lucas chose to start his junior career with us,” Hodson said, noting Thompson is a highly skilled forward.

Forward Fred Teeple joins the Kilty B’s by way of the Brantford 99’ers, where he had 10 goals and 86 penalty minutes in 22 games last season.  “This young man is a beast with offensive abilities and if you are in his way, he will run you over,” Hodson said.

In goal, the Kilty B’s welcome netminder Cal Schell, a Burlington Eagles product who was drafted by the OHL’s North Bay Battalion in 2017.  “A six-foot-three goalie with an extremely high ceiling who is getting better and better every day,” Hodson said.

The Kilty B’s are holding summer conditioning sessions with coach Ken Peroff leading up to the opening of main training camp in August. The Monday night home games at Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena will get underway by mid-September.
