The Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs '99 Minor Atoms won the 37th Annual Guelph Power Play Tournament on the November 28-30th, 2008 weekend.
In round robin action, the Jr. Bulldogs played some of their best hockey this year! Going 3-0 in the round robin and outscoring their opponents 12-3 was just the beginning for the boys. The bulldogs earned a birth into the semi finals by finishing 1st overall in the division.
Round Robin Results:
Win 3-1 vs Oshawa Generals
Win 5-0 vs North York Rangers
Win 4-2 vs Clarington Toros
In semi-final action, the Bulldogs were on fire. Facing the Oshawa for the second time in the tournament and playing with heart, intensity and desire, the Jr. Bulldogs earned their place in Sunday's Championship final by eliminating the Oshawa Generals 7-1
The finals were to be a different story. Facing the Clarington Toros in Sundays Championship game and the "rematch" from earlier round robin play was sure to be a good game. The two teams played each other hard and the score remained 0-0 after 2 hard fought periods of end to end action. Both teams playing great hockey and making no mistakes. Clarington took an early penalty in the 3rd period and the Bulldogs were able to finally beat Clarington's goalie. It looked to be a 1-0 final for the Bulldogs until the Bulldogs took a penalty with 2:59 to go in the game. Clarington wasn't done yet and they capitalized on the Bulldogs mistake scoring a power play goal to tie the game with 2:20 to go in the 3rd. The next 2:00 was the most exciting hockey the Jr. Bulldogs have played this season. Neither team wanting to make a mistake and neither team wanting to go to sudden death overtime. With 17 seconds left on the clock, the Bulldogs had a face off deep in Clarington's end. After a 30 second timeout and a team regroup, the Jr. Bulldogs went to the face off hungry for the win. There was a mad scramble in the Clarington end, the clock was counting down..........The Jr. Bulldogs SCORE with 1.7 seconds left on the clock to win the Championship final in regulation time and capture the Guelph Power Play Tournament.
Congratulations to all of our '99 Minor Atom players for an outstanding weekend of hockey.
