Submitted By Dianne Skirving on Friday, March 22, 2019
The Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs organization will be hosting two separate checking clinics available to all players who register online for Hamilton Jr. Bulldog Minor Bantam tryouts. There is no cost for players to attend one or both of these clinics, if the player has registered with the organization for 2019 spring tryouts. All players need to complete a checking clinic prior to tryouts on either one (1) of the two dates below, or with a previous team/organization, or privately through a checking clinic.

The Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs organization recognizes that checking is a critical skill in the game of hockey and when performed properly can create quality scoring opportunities or help a team regain control of the puck. A common misconception is that the skill of checking begins at a certain age or age category of play. In fact, checking is a 4-step progression that begins the first time a young player steps on the ice.  Body checking is the fourth and final step of a 4-step teaching progression.

NCCP CHECKING PROGRESSION MODEL
1. POSITIONING AND ANGLING
2. STICK CHECKS
3. CONTACT CONFIDENCE AND BODY CONTACT
4. BODY CHECKING

The transition from Peewee to Minor Bantam hockey can be uncomfortable for young players but with skills learned earlier combined with a checking clinic the players can feel more comfortable and it provides a safe environment for the game of hockey.

This season the Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs' checking clinic will run in partnership with SHIELD through Brandon Coccimiglio.
