Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs Minor Bantam AAA win OMHA Gold
Submitted By Dianne Skirving on Monday, March 18, 2019
The Minor Bantam AAA Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs’ skated off with the gold medal from the Ontario Minor Hockey Association Championships with a hard-fought 2-1 win over the host Oakville Rangers in Sunday’s championship final.

All the scoring of the game took place in the 1st period with the Jr. Bulldogs opening the scoring at the 13:05 mark and following with their second goal at the 5:27 mark.  The Rangers got on the scoreboard at the 4:26 mark.

Although there was no scoring in the second and third periods both teams played full throttle and kept the fans electrified with their intensive and passionate play and the performance by both teams’ goaltenders was stellar making many impossible saves.

Oakville pulled their goaltender in the last few minutes of play but to no avail.

In reaching the final, the Jr. Bulldogs won their opening Friday game over the Barrie Jr. Colts 2 to 1 and later in the day the Jr. Bulldogs played the Burlington Eagles and won with the score of 3 to 2.  On Saturday, the Jr. Bulldogs played the York Simcoe Express and battled them to a 1 to 1 tie.  The Jr. Bulldogs concluded round-robin play later that day with a 3 to 2 loss against the Oakville Rangers to place second in the round-robin and gain a berth in Sunday’s gold medal tilt against Oakville.

When asking Coach Gratton his thoughts of the OMHA Championship Weekend he said: “This was an incredible experience that these young men and their families won’t forget. The coaching staff is extremely proud of the boys, and would like to congratulate them on an outstanding season!

Congratulations to the Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs’ Minor Bantam Team on their achievement in winning the Minor Bantam AAA Gold Medal at the OMHAs!  The HJB Family is very proud of you!
