2007 Atom AAA Jr. Bulldogs are Worth Their Weight in GOLD
Written by: Nate Brown and Dianne Skirving
The Atom '07 Bulldogs finished the
OMHA Championship round robin play with a 2-1-1 record which qualified them to
play in the Gold Medal Game on Sunday, March 18, 2018.
The Atom
HJB’s saved their best hockey of the weekend for the Gold
Medal Championship Game. With tenacious
puck pressure and stifling defense the HJB Atom Jr. Bulldogs earned a hard-fought 2-0
victory over their SCTA league rivals Halton Hurricanes and achieved their goal
of winning an OMHA Championship GOLD Medal.
First year player Owen Fess was named player of the game after providing both Jr. Bulldogs’ goals with help from the 'Kids' linemates - Lucas Kisil and Brody Roberts. Highlights of the game include a frenzied final 2 minutes on the PK which included a half dozen blocked shots, an amazing goal line stop by netminder Kayden Newton and an 8 player dog-pile in the crease before Emrys 'Brownie' Brown was able to dig the puck loose and clear the zone.
Over the course of the championship weekend all 3 forward lines produced offensively while a black and yellow defensive wall worked together with goalies Caleb Shuker and Kayden Newton to allow the fewest goals of all teams.
The Atom D-men are Reed Atchison, Derek Baldwin, Sean Short Jr., Matthew Schaefer and the 'Twin Towers' Luke Tocher and Hudson Knock. Forward lines which are known as the 'Kid' line (Kisil, Roberts, Fess), the 'KGB' line (Lucas Koutny, Luc Gauvreau, Emrys Brown) and the 'Novice' line (Cooper Drennan, Jake Bezemer, Nolan McInnes). The Atom coaches are Bryan Drennan, Marc Gauvreau and Sean Short. The Coaching Staff is very proud of the 17 young men. The character, heart and hard work that these boys have shown over the past few months are an affirmation of the Gold Medal they have earned.
Congratulations to the 2007 Atom Jr. Bulldogs from the Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs – you are truly a model of our organization’s motto: “Pride and Passion”.
